📱 Cocktail Apps on iOS and Android

The Stir Down with Steve the Bartender - Issue 016

It's about time I gave an update on the cocktail apps and give you a little insight on the future plans!

If you aren't aware, I have two cocktail apps which help you find cocktail recipes using the bottles that you have on hand. Shake and Strain on Android currently has 30,000 active users with a 4.7 star rating from 2,110 reviews! The app enables you to add your ingredients, discover cocktails using those ingredients, search by ingredient or browse by category. There are currently 430 cocktail recipes within the app and the majority have a linked video to watch.

Essential Cocktails is a totally different app on iOS. I purchased this existing app and curated a list of 200 cocktails that are also linked to videos. This is a basic stand-in app until we are able to release the full featured Shake and Strain app on iOS.

What are the future plans for Shake and Strain?

The Android app hasn't seen an update for a considerable amount of time but we're resuming development now (thanks to the financial support of the premium subscribers). The plans are to redesign the interface, release some pretty exciting new features, launch a web version and release the app on iOS. I have no doubt this will take some time though!

Are you in the app or web development space? I'd love to hear from you about your experience!

🎥 VIDEOS

The Enzoni is one of my all time favourite modern classics and was created by Vincenzo Errico at Milk & Honey in New York. I first tried the Enzoni in 2020 in this video and it's since spread like crazy! Or you can watch the short video here.

📚 RECOMMENDED READING

Back in 2020 I shared a video comparing 3 of the BEST whiskey sour recipes. The one that took out third place (according to Punchdrink.com), and my personal favourite, was created by Neal Bodenheimer - one of the co-authors of Cure (also the name of the award-winning bar). The book is a love letter to the city of New Orleans - featuring many of the bars original creations and interviews from notable locals.

Made it this far? Thank you for your time :)
