I've gone Manhattan crazy...

The Stir Down with Steve the Bartender - Issue 021

When my Cocktail Guide was nearing release I sent out a handful of copies to friends in the cocktail community, including Anders Erickson. His channel has gone from strength to strength over the last few years thanks to his charismatic personality and informative content. In his latest video, he made an original cocktail of his, The Tartan, featuring a Highland Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth, Darmbuie and Ramazzotti - you should give it a try if you love Manhattan riffs and spirit-forward cocktails! He also dropped a shout out and quick summary of my book - thanks Anders!

The Red Hook is a Manhattan/Brooklyn mashup created by Vincenzo "Enzo" Errico (who was trained by legendary British bartender, Dick Bradsell - the creator of the Espresso Martini). Errico also created one of my all time favourite cocktails, the Enzoni.

🔥 TIPS OF THE WEEK

Seeing as we are on the topic of Manhattans, I thought it would be pertinent to throw you some Manhattan-related tips!

  1. Try a reverse Manhattan for a low ABV sipper (flip the ratios so it is more vermouth-forward)

  2. Emptied your jar of Luxardo maraschino cherries? Blanch some fresh cherries and refill your jar.

  3. Or, use the leftover sweet cherry syrup in your Singapore Slings (replace the cherry brandy).

  4. Don't shake your Manhattans! Here's why...

  5. Replace the sweet vermouth with your favourite amaro.

  6. Make cherry ice cream to pair with your Manhattan!
