Whiskey, cream and coffee! 🥃☕
The Stir Down with Steve the Bartender - Issue 015
I've partaken in a couple Irish Coffees over the years but have always been left fairly underwhelmed. On paper, it reads like an excellent drink - whiskey, coffee and cream - but I never really gave it a second chance... until last week.
A few months prior I jumped on a call with fellow cocktail YouTuber, Anders Erickson, for a chat and discovered that he recently launched his own brand of coffee beans, Bartender's Blend. He mentioned that the Irish Coffee was the baseline cocktail used when testing different beans, roasts and blends so when he offered to send me some coffee, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to revisit the Irish Coffee... and damn I'm happy I did!

🚀 TIP OF THE WEEK
I don't often use layering when making drinks but despite my own drink making habits, many others love layering drinks and shooters! I've noticed that most people recommend using the back of a bar spoon to assist with layering a cocktail yet this seems counter-intuitive to me. Layering liquids is far easier when A) the top liquid is lighter / less dense and B) the flow of liquid is slowed.
By pouring the liquid into the bowl of your bar spoon it will slow the flow of liquid and layer far easier! Alternatively, use a squeeze bottle for layering cream.
Cheers,
Steve the Bartender
